BAPTISM

 

We believe that baptism is for people who come to believe in Jesus Christ
 as their Lord and Saviour of their own free will. It is a very essential part of
 Christian life and its purpose is to give visual testimony of our
 commitment to Christ. It is also the first step of discipleship.

 In Romans 6 v 1-10 baptism pictures at least three things:

 First, baptism is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of
 Christ. 
 As we stand in the water we are representing Christ on the cross. As we
 are dipped underwater we illustrate the burial of Christ.
 As we come out of the water we demonstrate the resurrection of Christ.

Second, baptism is a personal testimony to us of the washing away of our sins. As we go under the water we reconfirm that our sins are forgiven and as we come out of the water we are resurrected to live a new life in Christ.

Third, baptism represents our personal identification with Christ. In verses 3 and 4 it further explains that “We were buried with Christ in baptism and we are raised to walk in a new life” as forgiven followers of Christ empowered by the Spirit of God.

Baptism is  obedience. It is more than just a symbolic act, it is an act that is filled with spiritual power that joins us with Christ. It is  one of the most meaningful and spiritual experiences of a Christian life.

DEDICATION OF CHILDREN

Children are undoubtedly a gift from God and belong within the family of the
 church so that, when new babies or children are brought to church we have
 a service of thanksgiving, blessing and dedication. These will take place during
 a normal Sunday morning service. During a service of dedication the parents
 of the child make promises to bring up their child within the Christian faith
 until the child makes up his or her own mind about Jesus. The church
 community also makes promises to support the parents as they bring up their
 child.
